Pigs?
Ensuring sustainability and autonomy is the most important part of this project. As the bicycle ambulances face rough unpaved roads and harsh weather conditions, they require repairs.
To keep this initiative self-sufficient and to ensure ownership by the local communities, a pig breeding program has been set up. Each village that receives a BA also receives the teaching and supplies to raise and breed pigs. Bentry, a Malawian veterinarian in the region, provides local guidance. Pigs are raised and sold to support repairs of the BAs.
